Received a $500+ eye doctor bill 2 weeks ago, called the office twice, unresolved. I was told different reasons why it’s billed this way and asked to call the insurance if I want to dispute. Another 2 calls, I got K who was positive and energetic. She called the doctor office billing department and had A join the call. I explained the case for the 5th time. A said will talk to the compliant department and let me know the decision.
To be honest, I didn’t have high hope so when I received A’s return call, I was delightfully surprised (1) she did call back (1st billing staff said but never did), (2) the office is going to send the bill to vision (which it’s supposed to be vs. medical), so I either pay nothing or at most $10 co-pay for the VSP.
I was ‘lucky’ to be persistent and have K and A to turn around the case yet how many others end up being penalized for not being informed or aware of the different types of doctors and insurance terms?
