At work, we are rotating to support incident management. I noticed my duty days in November and December are 11/26 (thanksgiving) and 12/18 (close to Christmas holiday) which I will be out-of-office. How ‘lucky’ am I? Who (colleagues in America) is going to exchange with me during the holidays?
First, I tried to change 12/18 to 12/11 with a colleague in Canada. I was surprised to hear that he would be happy to swop. In fact, he preferred not to be on-duty on Friday and thanked me for the exchange.
This encouraged me to re-think my shift on thanksgiving…do Canadian celebrate thanksgiving? I googled and found that yes but Canadian thanksgiving is a different date (10/21). Bingo! I could swop with a Canadian colleague and soon I did.
I’m thrilled with the results, moreover, I have learned to ‘find’ the possibilities regardless of how I feel or think.
