Commitment

A roller coaster ride this week…while preparing a big feature development and team collaboration, I received a shocking news of an executive, my core team member’s departure. When my boss said that he is not worried that we’ll work this out. On the one hand, I appreciated his confidence in me, on the other hand, I knew that I would be the person to ‘observe’ most of the works on in the mist of changes and hiring freeze. No question I can handle it and will make it work yet with my already-full plates, it’s not a very enticing prospect. I decided not to think about that, continued the team preparations, and ‘proactively’ reached-out to start the contingency plan. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst…

A key member’s departure is a big blow to the initiative and company yet she would stay on at least throughout the big feature launch and we had a good discussion on the preparation. It’d be helpful and more importantly, she ‘chose’ to stay involved. It again shows her character and care in addition to the contribution.

In the core team meeting, she and I shared the update with the team. I said that we could all talk about how we feel yet what’s most productive is to commit our focus and energy on what we can control. To make the new feature and initiative continue successful is the best course for all of us and in honor of her and all team members. We had a productive meeting discussing the key aspects and plans forward. People were open, took ownership, and encouraged teams to try new & bolder approaches.

Change/ Challenge is never easy yet we will work it out and often, it brings the best of people~
