New Month, New Home, New Life

September started a new chapter: new home, new roommate, new life! I signed a 1 year lease and will be settled for a while (vs. moved 5 times in the past 2 years). I’m grateful for the different experiences (beautiful small towns with 3min walk to trail and farm stands on road side; bustling city with a variety of events and restaurants; island getaway, etc.) and friends, relatives’ generosity.

With many moves (& travels), I became very good at packing, maximizing item utility, and being creative to work with whatever I have/ encounter. Living out of suitcase/ box is not bad at all, more compact and mobile.

I’m excited about the new life and lucky to have a long weekend (Labor Day off) to settle down. New home is nice and modern, closer to work, and conveniently located plus a bonus – near a riverbank park which I’ll try running/ biking. Roommate S seems easy-going and responsible (he arranged the cleaner of the place and handled most of the communications with landlord/ agent), tks S.

I tested out the bus to downtown, found a ‘hidden treasure’ (a hole-in-the-walls, specialized in NW Chinese-style hand-pulled noodles), and visited the contemporary art museum (free admission in Labor Day) in the chic Seaport district. I especially liked the ‘interactive exhibition to share the stories of incarcerated dads to their families’ and ’38 figure exhibition’ (figures made with oil paint, wire, styrofoam are not only colorful but also lively and expressive), both are cool story-telling. I walked pass the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum and decided to send a postcard home to wish mom/dad a happy Mid-Autumn Festival 中秋節 (coming up in 2 weeks) and made my niece a golden souvenir coin. A good Labor Day and start of the month; even better, rain and wind poured in right after I got home, lucky me!
