Sunny, warm, a gorgeous day to go Apple picking! I went to Bolton Spring Farm with a friend. In order to go into the orchard, we have to buy a bag…game on, apple hunting vs. apple watching. There are more than 10 kinds of apples in the orchard and several (names) I’ve never heard of. It’s incredible how different they taste. Some sweeter, others soured; some crispy, others softer or sandy, right off the tree, can’t be fresher! I wish we brought cheese and cracker, maybe even wine, it will be a perfect picnic with apples. What’s interesting, to me, the tiny dark red apple (don’t know name) tasted the best while ‘Red Delicious’ was the least favorite. It seems to resemble life, some of the best food come from ‘a hole in the wall’ places and some of the smartest and most successful people are very down-to-earth.
The farm stand staff was super friendly, we chatted and she explained the different squashes and pumpkins. Upon paying, I said I will get the changes from the car, she replied no need and picked up some coins from a jar by the cashier. She said at the end of the week, they gave the (jar) collection to an animal shelter. What a sweet place, people, and apples 🙂
