Special Trip

treehouse and my gift to the future guests

A special trip to visit aunt who has been through chemo, explore Iowa (a new state for me and getting close to achieve 1 of my bucket list to visit all 50 US states), and stay overnight on a tree house (another bucket list item).

Aunt seems skinner, thinner-haired, yet in good spirit. As always, she is generous in giving and caring for others. I invited her and uncle out for lunch but she insisted cooking. She prepared several dishes with vegetables from her garden and they were delicious. Not only eating but also taking-out, aunt gave me a pumpkin, a few apples from the garden and vegetable pockets, pumpkin manto (bon) she made. I love them.

I stayed at an Airbnb in Iowa city. The host P is lovely; she is a baker, teacher, and mother from Venezuela. We chatted about food, culture, families, and my previous trips to Latin America. I enjoyed healthy breakfast of salad, nuts bread, and beets carrot orange juice she made before saying goodbye.

I wrote this post on the treehouse (see image 1) while listening to the rain outside. There is no electricity and running water for the treehouse yet it’s cozy and thoughtfully designed. The structure has 3 levels, the house is on the 2nd level. There are a sofa, a wooden table and bench, and a bin of crafty materials on the balcony. A hammock is hang below and a fireplace is on the side. There are 2 levels inside the treehouse. Lower level with a table/ chair, sofa bed, shelf, and stove. Stairs up to the bed. The coolest part is the chimney; it’s a combination of the shower (drip bag), toilet (bucket to put sand), and view/ meditation tower! I created and hang the ‘happy J’ (see image 2) on the pillar of treehouse, my gift to the future guests J

A fun weekend getaway full of unique experiences, love, and gratitude. A wonderful gift to myself to celebrate the new job/ life and recharge~
