I joined Saturday Toastmasters of Arlington meeting today. H was the table topic (impromptu speaking) master. Instead of simply asking people question/ giving topics. H gave us a structure ‘What, How, and Why’ and 3 minutes to think of the content (pick 1 thing to evaluate the speaker). The structure makes thinking on your feet easier and organizing your thoughts faster. H also recommended when giving the evaluation, address the speaker as the 3rd person. This way you address to the whole audience instead of the speaker alone. Evaluation is an opportunity for all of us to get better. Several of us took the exercise and gave our feedbacks. Each pointed out different areas that the speaker has done well. The ‘pre-structure’ and ‘addressing the whole audience’ make the evaluation more specific and we all learned from each other’s different perspectives.
I love visiting different Toastmaster club meetings to meet great people and learn various things as above example. Thanks H and Arlington Toastmasters!
