I took Uber to airport and chatted with the driver, a young African American lady. I learned that she is originally from Uganda. She works 2 jobs while studying criminal justice. When she said her dream is to be a ‘cop’…to be honest, I’m surprised…then I quickly realized the ‘bias’…by the news scrutiny, assumptions (e.g. safety concern), or even stereotype (e.g. gender, race, etc). It also reminded me a conversation a few months ago with another Uber driver that he is excited to be a firefighter at age 45 because he wants to be part of the ‘solution’…Dream is not judged by size, age, or any agenda but you who believe in that. It’s all of us, every screw and part works together to make the system works. Best wish to J (the Uber driver) to realize her dream soon!
