6 is a good number in Chinese culture, 六六大順 = 66 everything goes well. I sent my manager a card and a Starbucks gift card to celebrate his birthday and 2 year anniversary at current company. Also, I thank him for creating a positive environment for the team as well as wishing him and family 六六大順. He replied thanking me, complimenting my contributions to teams, and elaborating Starbucks’ mantra that he will enjoy the coffee while cheering my achievements to make the world a little better everyday.
The email brought a big smile to my face, I appreciate not only my manager’s compliment but also our shared goal – leveraging technology and knowledge to accelerate changes and enhance people’s lives (support they do what they do best). More importantly, I/ we do our part toward a better world everyday! We don’t need to wait for ‘saver’, neither be a president or billionaire to make an impact. We can start now by growing ourselves, being helpful/ thoughtful to others, and collaborating at work, home, and in the community. Every bolt and screw matter and make the system work~
