Tenant said her room door couldn’t be closed and the range oven shut itself off in the middle of baking.
I went to check the door; actually a knob missed a screw so it’s loose. I went to a hardware store yet there is wall of screws of various sizes and lengths. I went back, took off another screw of the knob, and the store staff helped me find a match…da la, a few minutes later, the door shut close nicely.
I went to kitchen to check the oven. I turned it on. It stayed on but when I turned it off, it wouldn’t. Every few seconds, it beeped and showed a code on the screen. I had to unplug the range to stop the noise and trouble-shoot by searching online…
I googled the code and brand; I learned that it’s potentially a heat sensor issue. I don’t know if the machine is still under warranty, neither the model# as I didn’t buy it (it came with the house). I called the brand customer service to inquired and found that it had passed warranty. I called a few repair services and learned that to have a technician coming to check, fix or not, would cost close to $200, if it’s beyond changing a sensor, e.g. IC board, it could be $350 or more. It might be better-off to get a new range instead.
I decided to give it try (to repair) myself. I found the heat sensor part # and bought a replacement on Amazon. I also found a YouTube video how to change the heat sensor.
A few days later, I received the heat sensor. With the help of YouTube video and a screw driver, I replaced the heat sensor. I turned the oven on, the error code still showed up, I was disappointed…Then it occurred to me that I might not connect the wire. I un-screw the back panel, yes, the sensor wire was hanging out. I connected it to the machine and put everything back. I turned the oven on again, this time, no error code, no beeps, yes! It worked!
As first time home owner, I’m excited about the DIY accomplishments. I can do it! Anything is possible!
