Just Ask

I want to start a vegetable garden. I asked a neighbor who has lots of plants in her garden if she has any to spare. She said yes and gave me a tomato, an eggplant, and a flower called marigold. She said animals don’t like the smell of marigold so it works like a protection of other plants when they’re planted close to each other. I started the first pot of trio, tomato, eggplant, and marigold.

Not only the plants, she also told me a place where free soil is available. Now I need more pots and plants. On my regular walk around the neighborhood, I noticed there were 2 unused pots on a neighbor yard. I don’t know the people yet thought it doesn’t hurt to ask. I left a little card asking if I can have the pots and how many. A week went by and I didn’t see anything, I guess not. A few days later, when I walked pass the house again, I saw a card with ‘yes and 2’ in the pots. I brought the pots home and they became home to Chinese chives.

Just ask, even if you’re not sure, feeling shy, or doesn’t think it’s likely to happen. Just ask, if you give people a good reason, most people are generous and kind, to support, especially if it doesn’t cost them much. Just ask, you may be delightfully surprised by receiving even more; nevertheless, what’s more important is that when you have the opportunities, say yes, give first, and support others.
