I caught up with a friend recently and I’m excited to hear her and another friend’s success. Cindy* and Josh* both ran an interesting business.
Cindy does senior executives validation, for example, private equity firms hire her to investigate on CEO or CFO final candidates, talking to people who have worked with him/ her to learn who he/ she ‘really’ is and assess if he/ she is a right fit for the top job.
Josh, an ex-engineer is coaching engineers to be a better communicator. He has coached over 1000 engineers and have clients across top notch high-tech companies.
They are both earning top bucks and the businesses sound so simple, lucky them, isn’t it?
Well, if there is luck, they have certainly ‘earned’ it.
Cindy started her practice over 8 years ago, at some point, almost broke, yet she believes the needs and sticks to the idea, candidate validation not recruiting. Finally and recently her business took off. When others talk about economy down turn, she couldn’t keep up with the demand. Being able to get strangers to talk, analyze, and synthesize is a unique combo of skills and her value to the clients.
Josh quit from a well-paid software engineer job to become a speaker, trainer. He turned his Indian accent and English as second language into an advantage and specialty vs. a shortcoming. He teaches people how to be a confident, better communicator while being authentic oneself.
I’m thrilled for their successes and see it as inspiration for all of us, to work hard, believe, and achieve our dreams!
