I’m working on a social entrepreneurship specialization. The goal is beyond a certificate but start a social enterprise to solve a big societal problem. I thought of what I’ve seen, heard that it’s difficult to attract good doctors, teachers to go to smaller towns. The discrepancy of resources, opportunities, etc. happen around the world, developing and developed countries, large cities and smaller towns, even across neighborhoods within the same city.
Take Boston, MA, USA as example, 2 stop metro ride is {comparison of back bay and Roxbury},
How can we close the gap and level the opportunities? I think the fundamental change would start with education, not traditional college but practice skills and knowledge that enable people to be aware and generate steady income to trigger changes in health, safety, environment, etc.
I started LevelOpp. 2 people expressed interest to parter. One we talked once then he dropped off saying too busy to spend time. The other I never heard back. I reached out to a few more people who all showed interests but said they are short of time. It’s ok, I kept going…
3 weeks into it, Ken*, a classmate and consultant in Saudi Arabia reached out expressing interest. We scheduled an intro call. He invited Tammy*, another classmate and lawyer in Saudi Arabia to join. They resonated with the problem, liked the idea, and brought in different skills and experiences. We decided to partner forward.
Discrepancy is a huge global problem. Change would not be easy and success is uncertain, yet I/ we are excited to experiment, learn, and level up the opportunities for all!
