In 2 weeks, there will be presidential and legislator elections in Taiwan. Candidates used all kinds of strategies and tactics to seek supports and win over competition. People might be frustrated by the attacks of each other: lie, illegal property, ‘black’ money, etc. and wonder what is true?
At the same time, we saw the witty, humor, and moral, e.g.
One popular politician borrowed Chinese saying 「不怕貨比貨、就怕不識貨」(not to be afraid to be compared but unable to tell the difference) and changed to 「不怕川比川、就怕被看穿」(comparing 2 people with 川 in their names to indicate high ‘n low would be easily ‘seen through’).
A presidential candidate tried to lull fans of another party’s key influencier who was last term presidential candidate and said if he joined his team earlier, he is likely to be his vice president. Reporter asked the vice president candidate of the party of the key influencier, he said ‘people know who is real and who is fake…no point to talk about ‘what if’; if the key influencier said yes when his partner asked, himself would not be here 吹風 (to seek voters’ supports in cold weather). When reporter asked the vice president candidate whose partner made the comment, she said, ‘the key influencier is a presidential level candidate and his partner was seeking vice president, it’s appropriate that he asked me’.
A well-known large corporation family has a member as one party’s vice president candidate. In spite of this, the family leader announced he’d support another party’s presidential candidate because he had saved his life years ago.
Whatever the outcome, I wish the elected to put people before party and moral before money, thinking longer-term, doing the right things for generations to come.
