I love Trader Joe’s, not only for its unique and often-refreshing selection of goods but also (more) for its excellent service/ staffs. Let me share with you 2 recent experiences…
A few weeks ago, I was at a store and overheard 2 young staffs talking about a colleague who got promoted and will be moving to Austin to manage a store there. I chatted with 1 staff; he shared that Trader Joe’s will cover the relocation and he is very happy here/ wants to progress his career, too. Later, at check-out, somehow, I was only charged for 1 orange even thought I had a bag of oranges. I told the cashier and he called the manager. They thank my ‘honesty’ and kept the bill as is.
2 weeks ago, I bought a bag of peaches. Somehow, 4 went bad within 3 days. I took a picture with my phone and threw the bad peaches away. I went back to store (a different location) a few days later but forgot to bring my phone (as I was biking, to reduce weight, I left anything unessential home). I explained the situation to the cashier. He called the manager. She had a big smile, without questions, gave me a full refund even though I didn’t bring ‘evidence’. She said we ‘trust’ our customers.
Both incidents cost less than $5 for Trader Joe’s yet they earned a happy customer for life! Even more, in a traditionally lower wage, higher turn-over industry, it’s remarkable that Trader Joe’s has happy and motivated employees, no wonder of its growth and success~
