Do the ‘Care’ Thing

I talked to mom last night. Due to Covid-19, it has been a consistent topic. Mom told me the new ‘face mask’ distribution policy and now people can send masks to their close family (within 2 levels) oversea. They sent me a package by express mail because the now the regular air mail takes 20 days (vs. 7 days in the past). I understand their concern, seeing the news of outbreak in US and appreciate their love yet in my mind, ‘logically’, it’s not necessary. I bought earlier and don’t go out much so I still have a good stack at hand. There is no ‘rush’ to send. Also, I’d not want them to line-up longer or go to the pharmacy more times to ‘risk’ in order to get marks for me. I tried to explain and mom wanted me to listen to her…

The saying goes…to do the ‘Right’ thing. For this case, my parents and I are both doing the ‘Right’ things. What’s better is to do the thing other ‘Care’. For me, just listen and say thank you. It’s beyond logically what’s right or necessary but psychologically what makes the other person feel better. Feeling I’ll be ‘safer’ clearly outweigh the shipping cost and the process to get the masks for mom and dad. Even if I want to remind them to take care themselves, I should listen first.
