Quiet Power & Influence

Attended 2 workshops/ seminars this week by 2 presenters, both are passionate about their topics related to mindset yet presented in very different ways. Bep was calm and speaking slower in a soft tone while Kim was full of energy and the words poured out of her mouth.

When we think of a good public speaker, usually someone with big smile/ movement, dramatic vocal variety, and theatrical stage presence comes first yet this time, at least to me, quiet power wins. I can still remember Bep’s points after a few days (see ‘Would it be Great…’). Why does Bep message resonates more and sticks longer? Besides content, I think it’s how Bep said…she spoke ‘slower’ that gave audience ‘room’ to digest; she spoke in ‘lower’ tone that audience had to listen more ‘attentively’; she spoke ‘less’ so audience could capture and remember. It’s like watching a fast train, it came in fanfar yet not much left once it’s gone vs. watching a turtle move across the sand, every step can be seen and captured the moment in our memory.

Less is more, Quiet influence…
