Serendipity

I met Todd* at recent MIT grand hack. He is a svp at a major hospital system. He gave the keynote at sustainable health track. Yet he is not like typical presenters, flashy, dramatic, or funny; he was more an ‘engineer’, reserved, soft-spoken, presented slides with lots of numbers and chart. He was a mentor staying around for most of the weekend. He asked his team to provide us an information we asked. He also listened to our practiced pitch. I followed up with him afterwards seeking career advice. He said he is taking an executive course at MIT this week and we agreed to meet-up one evening after his class, my work.

Chatting over a beer and appetizers, I saw a different side of him, energetic, caring, and articulated. He passionately and honestly talked about education, inequality, and sustainability. He said he will introduce me to a good friend and entrepreneur who aims to level the opportunities through real estate investment. I’m passionate about social innovation and making positive impacts through education and health. This is quite a different approach yet I’m always interested in learning and getting to know good people.

Serendipity? Or am I lucky? Perhaps both. At the same time, I/ we create opportunities and connections. Good attract good to make a smarter, healthier, and better world together!
