How do you define a noble person(貴人)?
How do you describe a noble culture(貴族文化)?
A recent conversation with 蔡爾平 — known as 二哥, a renowned artist, creator, gardener, sculptor, and storyteller across materials and cultures — made me think again.
二哥 said:
“ A noble person is someone who values(貴重)your dream, your thinking, and your mission — not someone who simply gives you valuables. ”
Is that valuable?
In a world that chases investors, spotlights multi-billionaires, and celebrates influential executives or officials, resources do matter. But when we look more closely, what often changes our trajectory is not money — it’s a belief, an encouragement, a question, or a piece of knowledge someone shared. Sometimes we don’t recognize the impact until much later. Some people never receive credit at all.
A friend told me years later that a conversation with me encouraged him to attend a workshop. That experience eventually shaped his decision to pursue coaching training and change his career path.
To be honest, I don’t remember the moment — he made the decision and did the work. But it reminded me how a small exchange can influence someone’s life, even if we never notice it.
A friend came across Dr. Greger’s How Not to Die, shifted to a whole-food, plant-based (WFPB) diet, avoided statins, and improved her cholesterol and health naturally.
She later invited me and two other friends to a home “master cooking class.” I loved the food, and I became curious about how my own test results might change if I switched. So I experimented on myself. I felt sharper and lighter, enjoyed exploring new ingredients and recipes, and my lab results improved significantly within four weeks. Why go back?
I’ve continued the WFPB lifestyle and share resources with people who are interested. Knowledge shared becomes knowledge expanded.
My mother went to law school, but after she graduated, the government encouraged educated citizens to enter teaching to help rebuild the country after the war. She taught for 27 years.
She might have earned more as a lawyer or judge, yet I believe she made deeper impact by educating generations. I’m proud of her — and I’m a beneficiary, believer, and supporter of education because of her.

“ Noble culture(貴族文化)is precious sentiment — something that benefits both ourselves and others. ”
Is that precious?
In ancient times, elites carried the responsibility of moral leadership and caring for the community. Today, every one of us can hold that spirit by looking inward and around us:
What truly matters to me and the people I care about?
What would be helpful? How can I contribute, and who can I collaborate with?
The sky is no longer the limit.
Our imagination and actions are.
I like what Howard Thurman once said:
“ Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
What makes you come alive?
