Vacation

I love traveling and vacation equals travel time. If not going home, I’d be exploring new places and things. I don’t know why and how people do stay-cation (vacation while staying home).

This year, due to Covid, I didn’t travel far, thus haven’t used a vacation day. I was surprised to see colleagues still took vacations in the summer. With Covid, most people avoid flight, hotel, and indoor or crowded places. Where could people go or do? Schools and offices have been closed for months so family were already home ‘together’, what difference would a vacation day make?

Today is Labor Day and a holiday in US. Normally, for a long weekend, I’d be traveling somewhere. I took a walk in the morning. It was sunny, breezy, temperature in the low 70s F and low humidity, a perfect outdoor weather. A lady was reading and laying on a padded-bed-like swing on the front porch, what a leisure. I don’t have a front porch, neither a back yard yet it’s too nice to say indoor. I’m going to find my ‘spot’.

I brought my laptop and water to a near-by park, nobody but sunshine and breeze. I worked on the blog posts for the morning. I went home heating up my ‘world tour’ lunch, a mix of Persian grilled meat, rice, and tomato, along with the stew egg and roasted sweet potato, onion, and green pepper…balanced, colorful, and yummy. It was getting hot and there was no shade for the table at park. I didn’t want to be fried…I found my beach chair and headed out to ‘create’ my spot.

I’m sitting under a big tree on the pedestrian path and writing this…besides leaves swinging, birds chipping, and occasionally a few passing of bikers and dog-walkers, it’s quiet…It feels nothing yet happy and calm…Perhaps that’s what vacation is about, whatever we choose to do or not, we feel recharged, enlightened, and ready (excited) for what’s coming…

On my walk home, I saw a bunch of kids at the park. They were climbing up ‘n down the slide/ swing, riding bikes, and chit-chatting with each other ‘over mask’. They put another smile on my face…It’s a different Labor Day yet a nice vacation 🙂
