Uncle has 70 year’s day. Not only it’s a big milestone in life, but also, university of Connecticut (UConn) is going to honor/ celebrate for him at a biostatistics conference. Uncle is well-known in the field. He is a scientist at a big pharma company yet he loves teaching and has been teaching at UConn for over 10 years.
I used to see uncle every few months when I lived in CT, we chatted over dinner. He always had good stories to tell. I haven’t seen him for several years after moving out of the state. I decided to join his birthday celebration at the conference.
Many people spoke at the conference sharing the stories how uncle has touched their lives as a mentor, teacher, and partner. ‘Giving’ beyond the scientific contribution is what truly makes uncle special and remarkable. To honor uncle and continue the giving spirit, i decided to put $100 into kiva.org (interest-free micro loans) to support 4 women/ projects around the world as a gift (he probably has everything needed or can buy if he wants). Uncle loves it.
