Thanksliving

No shopping this Black Friday, instead, I ordered two things online. In the past, aunt’s banquet easily had 20+ people and 15+ dishes, today just 4 of us with 3 home-made dishes: rice cake stew, shrimp, string bean; plus roasted veggie pizza I brought from a local shop, simple and delicious.

We ate on the front yard enjoying the mild weather while keeping Covid’s social distance and wearing mask. Clearly no rules for birds, a big group of them were having a meeting or concert? on the trees…zz, zaza, zzz

We took a walk around the neighborhood after the meal. It’s like walking in a picture, surrounded by large, colorful, beautifully designed houses with well-maintained lawn and free of leaves. No question, each would be worth millions of dollars. I wonder what kind of people live in these houses. Aunt mentioned a friend who is an auditor worked with private equity guys. Their annual bonus could be multi-million dollars. Meanwhile, we saw from the news that people are waiting on Covid stimulus aid (check) to get by and waiting in line for the supplies from food pantries. What a difference!

We walked by the town hall. At a corner, there are many black chairs side-by-side. ‘There is no way to have a concert and sit “so-close” to each other now’…we wondered what they are for. When getting closer, we saw a sign in memorial of the passing due to Covid…on a rough count, there were more than 150 chairs.

Perhaps that’s the “fairness” in life, no matter how much money, power, status a person has, he/ she comes to the same end. When there is a breath, there is hope. When we can give someone a hand, a praise, a smile, it’s a blessing. Thanksgiving, Thanksliving!
