Right after Christmas, I heard a voicemail from the tenant that water came down from 3F to 2F. She sent me a video, I can see the waterfall and pool in the house. OMG…fortunately, her boyfriend got help from his dad, managed to turn off the water of 3F so the waterfall stopped and she dried 2F floor to preserve the floor and prevent water going down further. Water went down to 1F but other than filled the celling light cover and left some marks in the bathroom, it didn’t go wild. I was away so I called a local friend if she could help, go take a look. Unfortunately she was sick yet she called a plumber. The plumber didn’t respond, probably either on vacation or overbooked (wouldn’t be surprise the freeze busted many people’s pipes). Fortunately, she got a second plumber to go check. Another bomber, the tenant also got sick (strong flu season). What a welcome back gift!
Looking back, it was costly yet fortunately, the pipes were fixed quickly (within a week, it’s remarkable considering holiday and amazingly on 1/1/23, a Sunday). Thanks to teamwork and serendipity (tenant who went home earlier, we got help from her boyfriend, my friends and plumber), the damages were retained to minimum. Aunt said I’m very lucky that “someone is watching over me”. If so, it’d be goodness and grandparents in the heaven.
Good or bad luck? I think Rich said it well in the 1/1/23 email…
I hope this day finds you healthy, motivated, and filled with anticipation for what the new year can be. Each morning you wake and get to decide what your future will look like. Never lose track of that. Fate, good luck, bad luck and your level of optimism are all under your control. Push yourself today. Every day. You can find the future you dream of by what you choose to do in the coming hours, days, weeks and months.
I look forward to being part the reality you create.
Great start of the year!
