Opportunity

Dad bought 麵線 (prounce ‘men shen’, salted thin noodle soup) and commented the popularity of the food cart and he no longer saw the founder, a young man graduated from a culinary school who perhaps is focusing on the expansion of the business (hiring others to run more carts)?

I opened the cover, bright brown thin noodle soup with meat, intestine, oyster, cilantro on top…Looks and smells delicious. I had a spoon…warm, soft, chewy, a bit salty and spicy…a familiar taste with a (gourmet) twist, yum! No surprise of its popularity and success. There are plenty of ‘men shen’ street vendors yet the young founder’s creativity and authenticity (generous portion and high-quality ingredients) enables him to standout and charge a premium. It proves that opportunity can be anywhere and demystifies the stereotype of millennial.

Mom and I rode bike to a traditional market, at 7am on the weekend, it’s already full of people and activities, young and old, who may not be rich or famous yet people work hard and live ‘real’ of their lives. That’s a success anybody can be proud of~
